What are bicycle machines?
Bicycle machines, bicimaquinas are appropriate technology for communities where electric energy is not available or not affordable.
Bicycle machines are relatively inexpensive, user maintained and repaired, and emit no pollution.
Leg driven pedal power machines generate about 5 times the energy and productivity as arm powered machines and are generally 20 times faster than hand work.
The Mayan culture is one of the last remaining opportunities to preserve indigenous culture. Despite 500 years of colonial rule, a 36 year civil war, the Mayan culture faces its greatest challenge today; adapting in the 21st century.
Why we do?
Other Central American countries report similar numbers. Increased income helps get kids into school and keep families together and reduce dangerous migrations to the USA for farm labor.

They are machines driven with pedal force, being an intermediate technology. Tool that serves to support the family economy, obtaining a higher capacity than the manual.
Each bicimáquina is handcrafted in our workshop using used bicycles, concrete, wood, and metal.
We have designed several models that are functional and economical.
